History of the Roches-Roussillon Platform

1915-1916 : Creation of Roussillon’s plant, launching of the phenol production.

1917-1920 : Les Roches de Condrieu plant created, Barium salts production workshop started.

1922 : Launching of the cellulose acetate (Roussillon) and phosphates (Les Roches).

1940 : Launching of the nylon intermediates production.

1970-1980 : Diversification with methylchlorosilane, herbicide, methionine and upstream, pharmaceutical intermediates units.

1993 : Two sites combined as a single Les Roches-Roussillon entite (Rhône-Poulenc Chimie).

1999 : Creation of a consortium and six chemical production plants.

2000-2004 : 10 new companies joined the platform, either starting new activities or the purchasing of Rhodia’s units.

2003 : Creation of Novapex.

2007 : Creation of Bluestar Silicones.

2011 : Creation of Novacyl.

The purpose of the Energy and Fluids Operational Group (G.E.E.F.) is to produce, sell, and distribute all power and utilities that the Roussillon Platform's clients need.

The Safety Service guarantees to Chemical Platform's security and safety policy, with consulting, organizational, and testing services.

It is responsible for prevention, intervention, coordination, and rescue actions in the case of an alert or an accident.

The Work Health Service provides the regulatory tasks of an Work Medicine Service in the field of on-the-job risk prevention and industrial health.

It plays an operational role in organizing and providing emergency care to the injured and ill.




The Environment Service is in charge of overseeing aquatic and atmospheric discharges, the administrative management of waste, and monitoring soil and groundwater.

It operates waste-water networks, the organic effluent biological station, and the 15000 m3 retention tank.

The Inspection Service, officially approved by the environmental authority (DREAL), monitors pressure equipments. It also monitors regulated equipments :

The Road and Rail Traffic Office manages all of the Platform's inbound and outbound flows. It handles administrative formalities, weighing, and managing rail exports. It coordinates rail movement operations within the Platform, and also sends and monitors product samples sent abroad. It is managed by the Hazardous Materials Transport Safety Advisor (CSTMD).




The OSIRIS GIE ensures the maintenance of all of its equipment, as well as the Platform's shared infrastructure: rails, roads, racks, and utilities.




The analysis laboratories are equipped with multi-technical, high-performance materials.

The Service draws upon its expertise to :

  • quickly accept and process test samples.
  • conduct analyses of finished products, raw materials, and intermediates (process monitoring) and effluents.
  • ensure that self-testing equipment is installed and monitored at its clients' sites.
  • perform analyses based on manufacturing best practices.
  • carry out special studies on request.

The Maintenance Service carries out :

  • conditional maintenance (vibration analysis).
  • mechanical maintenance (machining and maintaining rotating machines, mechanized welding, and pipes).

The Service works both in its workshop and at the production sites.

The Industrial Supplies Warehouse is made up of 18,000 items accessible to all of the Platform's clients. It also ensures the storage of about 3000 client-specific parts.




The Information Systems Service maintains the Platform's computer systems and takes part in developing applications. It hosts and operates servers in two redundant, protected rooms. It manages a secure on-site computer network with an outbound link, as well as providing telephone and radio systems.

The Service ensures maintenance and study regarding instrumentation, industrial information technology, and electricity for the GIE's own needs, as well as for the entire Platform with regard to the high-voltage power network.




All of these Services, which are specific to the OSIRIS GIE's own operation, can provide special services upon clients' requests.




The administration-approved Training Centre offers different training actions (general, technical, regulatory, management) that meet improving needs and help develop skills, both for the Platform's companies and for outside companies. It has suitable rooms and a catalogue available on request.

Within the Lycée François Verguin secondary school, the GIE manages an apprenticeship unit that offers a two-year "Bac Pro IP" (Process Industry degree) program.


A Word from GIE's Administrator

Since 1915, the Roussillon platform has made chemical products for your everyday life. Over time, the Rhône-Poulenc and later Rhodia plants in Les Roches-de-Condrieu and Roussillon gradually became a single multi-operator Chemical Platform that benefits from a historical background in both the chemical industry and the Rhône-Alpes region. Through exchanges with the industrial firms located there, it maintains close relationships with the other regional sites.

In 1999, the Groupement Intérêt Economique (Economic Interest Group) GIE OSIRIS was created in order to manage the common industrial services, provide power and utilities, and coordinate safety and the environment.

GIE's fifteen-year anniversary passed, and its mission changed. OSIRIS has now become a recognized leading platform manager that contributes to improving the competitiveness of the Platform's clients. OSIRIS's client-focused teams are able to take action in order to provide guidance on all new projects that will help strengthen the resilience of the Platform's current and future companies.

The technical and human benefits of the region, and the expertise and skill of OSIRIS' teams, have and will continue to contribute to the growth of the Chemical Platform. The major investments made over the past few years exemplify this dynamic approach.

The Hexcel company chose Roussillon Platform among 60 possible plants in Europe to launch a factory of carbon fiber. This choice confirms the attractiveness of Roussillon.

Every year, we organize a Sustainable Development day. This is a chance for industrial firms to present their outcomes and their plans for the future, but most importantly it's an opportunity for discussion and dialogue with stakeholders affected by our industrial activities (elected officials, authorities, associations and academia).

A willingness to communicate and ensure transparency, and the involvement of local players, make local acceptability easier.
